Alexis Freeborn
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Welcome! My name is Alexis and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. My therapy approach can be described as somatic and combines techniques derived from Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt Psychotherapy, Hakomi Method, mindfulness and attachment theory. When working with couples, I draw from the Gottman method and the work of Esther Perel to help you develop trust, commitment, communication and bring emotional intimacy back into the relationship. In treatment, I will strive to listen deeply, observe, and offer nonjudgmental reflections of what you bring into the space. I will hold the boundaries necessary to maintain a safe, warm, and professional environment where you, the client, can come as you are and do the inner work necessary to unveil your inner resources and strengths to meet life's challenges in a new way. You will always maintain the right to decline any interventions I may suggest or state your honest feedback as we collaborate to find out what works best for you. I believe that therapy builds upon one's innate drive towards healing and wholeness and I value a holistic, integrative approach that honors the wisdom and connection of the body, mind, and psyche.
Ideally, you will be willing to engage in deep self-reflection and self-study as we work towards integration and harmony within yourself and your relationships. You will be curious about their own habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving and be motivated to make the changes necessary to move towards healing. This work is challenging and requires a willingness to move outside of your comfort zone and explore parts of yourself and your life that may be painful. Over time, we will work to establish a sense of trust and ease in our therapeutic relationship and you will be comfortable enough to provide authentic feedback for what works and does not work for you in session. We will aim to move at a pace that feels both safe and increases your capacity to sit with a range of complex emotions. Through our work, my hope is that you will learn to listen to the wisdom of your body, and use it as a guide to more authentic ways of being, decision making and relating to your world.
