Shelley Beaudoin
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
As a well-educated, licensed (License # MCH01323) professional mental health counselor and holistic guide, I encourage each client to find the tiny joys in life while helping them navigate the harder aspects of their journey.
As a trauma informed and social justice focused counselor, the five guiding principles of my therapeutic approach include a space where each client feels culturally, emotionally, and physically safe. There is a consistent offering of choice, transparency, and trustworthiness, a collaboration of care, and empowerment of each and every client. I aim to provide integrity, focus, authenticity, warmth, and professionalism to each session.
Education & Training
I received my M.A. in Professional Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University, Cambridge MA in May of 2019, one of the foremost mental health programs in the country. I received my license with the state of Rhode Island in the fall of 2021. I took courses to better understand holistic approaches to counseling, trauma courses to implement a better understanding of trauma and its effects on human behavior, as well as expressive therapy to help people cope with their experiences through the use of the arts. I attended University of Limerick, Ireland PhD intensive on Vicarious Trauma - Understanding systematic and systemic abuse in society, to better understand trauma and its impact on society. In 2018, I began my work as a therapist/clinician at an agency working with underprivileged children 0-18 years of age and their families. I have experience working with children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional disturbances. I have completed clinical training for enhanced family support services, foster care support, and residential services for adolescents and young adults. My experience has been focused on traumatic loss and experiences of grief. My goal as a holistic counselor is to empower you- with the knowledge, tools, and courage- to overcome life's toughest challenges and disappointments and help you understand the best path forward. To deepen your awareness and find the tiny joys that are waiting to be discovered.
The master's degree in professional mental health and holistic counseling prepares professionals to facilitate healing, growth and evolutionary change in individuals and groups. The education and training required to obtain an MA in Professional Mental Health and Holistic Counseling is consistent with that necessary for licensure in the State of Rhode Island. Holistic Counselors may choose not to work within that system and are covered under the Unlicensed Health Care Practitioners section of the Rhode Island Health and Safety Act of 2002 and may not provide a medical diagnosis.
