Sage Goodwin
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been in private practice for over 12 years and in the mental health field for over 20 years. I have wanted to be a therapist since I was a teenager and cannot imagine my life with any other career. I am more committed than ever to creating access for individuals in Rhode Island to quality mental health services. I believe that growth happens for all of us when we are supported and challenged. The image I like to give to clients is that we all need to gently and compassionately push ourselves to be at the edges of our comfort zones so we can grow and create new healthy patterns in our lives. I believe deeply in the importance of the relationships in our lives, and therefore my work is always focused around building healthy relationships with ourselves, family, community, friends, partners, etc. We are hardwired to need other people to navigate life and we know that isolation and loneliness is detrimental to our mental and physical health. As a therapist we are given the unique opportunity to show up for other humans in a way that is essential to their well being and growth.
I began my psychology education at University of Colorado at Boulder, employed at a school for individuals with Autism, and then got my Masters in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I have added to my education with a certificate in Trauma counseling from Simmons College, multiple training in Internal Family Systems, and certified as an Emotionally Focused Therapist.
Embracing my roles as a mentor, supervisor, and teacher at Rising Tides Counseling Center.
I welcome the challenge and opportunity they bring. I look forward to providing support for you.
