Margot Armstrong, Couples & Family Therapist Associate
I believe that people are shaped by the relationships, environments, and experiences that surround them. I take a systemic approach to therapy, exploring how relational patterns, family dynamics, and broader systems influence each client's experiences. Through a trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based approach, I strive to create a collaborative and supportive space where clients feel understood and empowered to recognize their strengths and resilience. I also incorporate psychoeducation to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and the patterns that shape their relationships and interactions with others. By building on these existing resources and increasing awareness of their strengths and patterns, clients can feel better equipped to navigate challenges, create meaningful change, and work toward their personal goals.
I am passionate about working with couples as they strengthen their relationships, deepen emotional connection, and navigate concerns related to communication, intimacy, trust, and premarital preparation. Additionally, I value the opportunity to work with adolescents and teens, particularly those involved in sports, as they explore their identities, build confidence, and navigate the unique experiences that come with balancing athletics and life.
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Dickinson College before completing my M.S. in Couple and Family Therapy at the University of Rhode Island. Through my clinical training, I adopted an integrative approach to therapy informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). By thoughtfully integrating these evidence-based approaches, I create a collaborative and individualized therapeutic experience that reflects each client's unique needs, values, and goals.
